I have a duck egg that hatched on day 29 so it's not actually early if anything it's late. But there's a bunch of gunk connected to it's vent and it hasn't been able to stand yet. It also can't open it's eyes all the way. I'm not sure what to do... it's still drying off in the bator right now. Here are some pics

Is it trying to move at all or just laying there

I would give it time to rest & fluff up in the bator, when mine hatched a few weeks ago one of the ducklings need a couple hrs to rest before it starting moving around.

To me it looks more like unabsorbed yolk than a vent problem. The resting is probably just trying to draw the rest in. It doesn't look like it's protruding enough to cause problems if it were to get up or anything, but I think if there are other chicks running about while they dry off in there then one of them could step on it and rupture it, so just be mindful of that.

Yep, open umbilicus/abdomen.
Put it in a cup and get that shard of shell off there @WVduckchick ?

Yep, looks like the belly hasn't finished closing all the way. I'd gently pick the piece of shell off and put in it a cup lined with a dry paper towel (still in the incubator) to give it time to close up.

x2

@Wolfefarmyard how's it doing now? Usually when they hatch like that, it will draw in within a few hours. It may stay a little solid scab like spot for a couple days, then you'll never know it was there.
Cute baby! Hope all is well, and congrats!!
