Help! Easter Egger hen or roo?

You could always hang onto your roo so your 1 pullet doesn't get lonely, and just exchange him for a pullet when he starts to crow. Of course, if they have a pullet the same age as the one you have now I guess it would be up to you if you waited or exchanged then. You would probably have to segregate your pullet and the new one anyways until you know the new one is disease free and they get along.

Swedish, I'm letting you in on a secret,   I'm not supposed to have any chickens either. I live in a downtown area in the business district only 2 blocks from city hall and have 5 hens and a rooster and I have had them here for 1 year!  EEK! Don't tell anyone. Luckily all the businesses around here love our chickens too, they even like the rooster crowing. I am glad you have a place for your maybe rooster..lol.

Thankyou Kieksterchicken! I am not even supposed to have a s many hens as I do, so I'm technically already in violation though our neighbors are cool and don't complain. They like to bring their kids over to feed the hens and the ducks we have. If we had a crowing too though, it might be a different story... And the second he starts to crow I can drive him to his new home (it's about 10 mins away from me). I will post updated pics in a week or two and show you guys the progress. Thank you again!:D

Same! If you have a rooster and you are in town, I think I should get one since I'm no edge if town ;).

Looks like a pretty rooster :).

I asked my sister to talk to her friend and find out wether or not they have younger chicks. Apparently her friend has had roosters before that they killed because it would peck them if they bent down to pet it. Does that seem like an extreme thing to do or not? I've never had a roo so I wouldn't know what would be acceptable or not. I just want to know if I'd be sending my roo to a good home or not.

Some roos are mean like that, some a bit less. Mine is somewhat nice in that he hasn't pecked anyone yet. It all depends on the roo. As far as killing the roo, they ahve the ability to seriously harm children so sometimes the only solution is what they did. Even the Humane society will put down a dangerous roo.

Okay thank you! I wasn't sure if that was a little much for the chicken just pecking. I have a hen that pecks me all the time, but I'm not really in the situation to kill her. My neighbors would probably be a little terrified if they saw me slaughtering a chicken in my backyard. ;)
Anyway, that makes me feel better now.

Roosters are supposed to protect their hens. That's what they are hardwired to do. But some take it too far and can be a real danger to humans (especially children!). So, how much aggression is too much really depends on your circumstances. With young kids, I wouldn't tolerate much at all. And when you have more roosters than you need (as is always the case with straight run), it makes perfect sense to keep only the best and eat the rest.
