HELP! First time NERVOUS Hatcher-Duckling pipped! Not ready at all- please help!

Uh- my gosh- they are so close, yet so far away from hatching!!! Patience hasn’t always been my thing either, lol!!! That’s another reason I’m a bit nervous about the hatch-my impatience- I don’t want to have to make a decision regarding the hatch at all. I am hoping they just all pip and hatch on their own :fl

How are you getting on?

I have an external pip! :woot

It's not the egg with the safety hole but it was the next one to pip internally. I feel exhausted even though all I've done all day is check on my eggs. And to think it's going to be 2-3 days more of this. :th

Hi!!! Congrats :woot So happy to hear your have movement!!!

I started playing a video of ducklings hatching and peeping next to the bator and within 10 minutes I have 2 external pippers! I put a safety holein my first internal pipper because she wasn’t talking to me anymore but was moving, clicking and pecking away- as soon as I have the safety hole she started talking to me like crazy, so I believe she needed some oxygen to help her continue or own external hatch. So I have 2 external pippers, 4 internal pippers and 4 that still have to internally pip. All 10 are moving and going strong!

I’m worn out too!!! I took (2) 2-hour “naps” this morning- was up all night and I’m about to do the same thing! I will continue playing the video for them so they know they have someone waiting for them! I think it really encourages them- I played the same video during my two naps this morning to let them know they’re not alone and someone is waiting for them. Maybe you’d be interested on playing a similar video/sound? The video is YouTube- “watch baby duckling hatch”, is the title. It also gets mine “peeping/talking” because they hear the ducklings peeping in the video!

I made a safety hole in my egg that has now been internally pipped for 24 hours. I listened and candled and it just didn't seem as active as it was. It wasn't peeping when I talked to it either. Once I made that hole (which wasn't easy!) it started to peep again so I'm glad I stepped in. The others all seem fine for now. :fl
Hey there! How are your babies doing? Here’s my 6am update- I started a new thread to gain new attention for a question I had. I posted the link for you below to click on if you’re interested. It has pictures of my (2) “external pippers” and my (1) “safety hole” egg. Any advice, tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Hope all is still going well with your hatch and your egg with the safety hole!

I was already in bed when you posted that. They are looking good. Some people freak out because they can't see that the membrane has been penetrated when the chick/duckling externally pips but there's always a tiny tear - if the shell has been broken the membrane has too.

I strongly suspect I will have to assist the one I made a safety hole for. It sounds very active and chirpy but hasn't externally pipped for itself. I found excellent instructions on assisted hatching on the Geese forum because it shows where to look for the yolk so you can judge if it is too early to jump in or not. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/goose-incubation-hatching-guide-completed.491013/

My other 3 are still going strong and it hasn't been 24 hours yet since they internally pipped so I'm not expecting them to externally pip quite yet, but soon would be nice.
