Help! Found a poor chicken that fell off a poultry truck

What do you think lions do? Chickens eat dead animals all the time. The meat/egg industry is horrible and disgusting, and I hate it, but eating meat isn't a crime. I usually eat plant-based foods, but eating other animals is natural, not disgusting. I wish people could just let the animals live a real life, then kill them, not force them into a terrible life they don't deserve and kill them so young. Again, though, snakes eat rats, lions eat gazelles, sharks eat seals, penguins eat fish, and it's not "disgusting".
I meant in human terms, not animal.

There is a difference, between an a carnivore, and a human who eats meat. We have this God-given thing, it's called a conscience.
Humans actually weren't omnivore but in times of need had adapted to a omnivore diet. The fact that we thrive on a vegetarian diet, but choose to eat meat, says that somebody is dieing for our pleasure. You know, human vanity.

As for being gross, if a dead body and the bodily secretions, skin, ECT., or even there can be infections/worms/somethings that go with it, isn't gross, afterall, your "meat" was A FUNCTIONING BODY.

------ ----- ------ for everyone else...

My philosophy, if you won't eat your dog (which is culturally o.k in Korea, Vietnam, and some other countries BYW) then why draw the line with a cow, horse, rabbit, chicken ECT. ECT.

An animals is an animal. Your actions must align with your values, or they are meaningless.I don't care what you think, just don't say one thing and not even stand up for it. Or believe your creed or have your values than act differently. Stand up for yourself and your values.

I was driving and found poor chicken on the side of the road on some grass. It looks like she’s wounded but it’s not infected. I have chickens of my own and want to take her home. I know I’ll have to keep her separated from the flock for a while but any other tips. Do you guys think she’ll make it?
How's she doing @Cjcyndi ?

BTW, I understand that all must animals die sometime. I personally, don't eat meat, like I said, because it disgusts me. Some animals don't care what their food tastes like;)

@calychicken, I didn't mean to sound so frank! :) thanks for being understanding, I worded that lil' wrong!

On homesteads like ours, as La Fleche describes, it's ethical. Allowing them to live their lives in a way that brings them fulfilment. The sun, the range, the grass, company of the flock, nest building, it's natural to their existence. Eating them? Just not for me.

Is the hen okay? Careful monitoring is important at this time, but its also important to take care of yourself!

I wish you two the best! Update please...

Animals have a conscience. It isn't "God-given", not something special to our species. Some meats provide essential nutrients. It's easier to eat them than finding a plant-based alternative. Does that sound selfish, or lazy? If it does, remember that some people don't have access to the alternatives. Also, humans are omnivores. Yes, our ancestors ate more plants. But we evolved to eat different things. Look at our teeth. We are designed to eat both plants and meat.

She’s doing good so far. My concern is she is not interested in drinking water at all so I have to help her out with it but she definitely eats when the food is in front of her. My other concern is it looks like she can’t really stand up for long. Only a few minutes then she falls.
That's encouraging. The electrolytes should be helping a lot. I know you're keeping her separate but is she somewhere she can see or at least hear the other chickens? That might help her feel less alone and more "normal."

My other chickens are in a coop since between my in laws and us we have several cats and dogs. We also have buzzards and hawks that love to glide through the air above us. There’s sometimes like 7 or more at a time. So I can put her outside close to my chickens but only when I can supervise very well.

Good so far. I’m just wondering what can be the best long-term decision for her. It seems like they can actually live longer than intended to with good care and careful feeding but I currently only have one chicken coop and run and if I were to put her with the other chickens once she’s well I wouldn’t be able to monitor her eating.
