I found my rooster dead this morning. I'm not sure why he died and hope you can help me figure this out. A couple of weeks ago I thought he injured himself because he was fine and then couldn't walk. I thought it was because my dog chased him and he slipped on concrete. I posted and someone suggested moving his legs around. We did this and he didn't seem to mind infact, he liked being held. He was eating and drinking good. When we purchased him he had been vaccinated already so I don't know what it could be. I did noticed black spots soon after that look exactly like the web pictures of foul pox looks like. All of the chickens have it just not as bad as he did. They all lay really good and seem to be healthy. I read that there isn't anything that can be done if they have foul pox that the virus just has to run it's course. It didn't say that it was fatal so I'm not sure if that's why he died or not. Another question should I take the carcuss to the vet or bury it? What do you do when one of your birds die? My daughter loved this bird and wants to bury it. Is that okay or should I take it to the vet to be creamated? I have to hurry because it happened this morning. I can't bare to touch it myself and I'm waiting on hubby to come home to pick him up. I know I'm a wimp when it comes do animals dying. I just can't touch it.

Thanks for any help

I haven't had any experience with pox before. I'm so sorry for you loss. We usually bury our animals on our property. The kids have gotten so used to the animals passing that it doesn't really bother them anymore. I guess that's just what happens when you grow up with a lot animals. They've gotten used to the fact of life and death. The first hen we had that passed away was the roughest though.
