ok so i went out to feed the goats and my female has like yellowish stuff coming from her butt(may be from girl parts) I looked on the ground and there is a plop of marshmellowy goo with some of that yellow custard on it. I have no camera right now but will get pic's asap. What could that be? Yeast infection(don't laugh) some kind of plug? She is in with a 4-5 month old male baby goat. I know he doesn't mount her! Size will not let him. They are nigerian dwarfs by the way. They eat goat sweet feed. 1 cup in morning and one a night, free choice hay all day, baking soda free choice as well.

HELP

You'd be suprised how those boys can get the job done. It sounds like she may be "in season" and ready to breed if the little guy hasn't gotten her already.

She's either in heat or your buck got her

If you don't want kids I'd separate them. If she doesn't come back into heat within 18-21 days then she's bred.

she has been in heat before and i never saw that stuff. OK, count 18 days or so and check if she is in heat. How will i know? Aou also, how long gestation? Thanks you all for your help. I want her to be breed just DIDn't think it could happen so soon,LOL.

Not all does have discharge when in heat. All of mine do thankfully, so I can always tell when it's time to breed them. The usual signs of heat are; tail flagging, more vocal, discharge, mounting other goats or standing for others to mount them

Gestation is 5 months/150 days but a lot of nigerians tend to go closer to 145 days.

Goats can breed as young as 2 months old. That's why it's important to separate young does from bucks. I bought a doe from someone who didn't think her brother could breed her at 2 months old. Guess what, she was wrong and my 7-8 month old doe gave birth to twins. Good luck!

I have Nigi's too. My bucks are in a seperate pen by the time they are two months old. Some are moved a bit earlier if they are showing interest. The discharge is pretty normal for the does in heat, though the amount varies from doe to doe. I've not been sorry to move those boys early as some were showing strong bucky traits. I always move them with a buddy and will keep wethers as companions if I don't have two bucklings. I pretty much neuter all the boys.

I had a doe unexpectedly kid last month with twins. I briefly put a 2 month old buck kid in the pens with the does, but some of the does abused him too much so I took him out. She is a very tall nubian, and he was a little bitty french alpine. But, apparently they fell in love in that short week.

Remember that people breed pigmies and nigerian dwarf goats to tall goats all the time. That way they end up with breeds such as Kinder (nubian X pigmy) that has many of the characteristics of the larger goat, but at a reduced size. Some how those little guys get the job done.

And if you're not planning on breeding that buck, I'd go ahead and castrate him. Or separate them if you don't want babies (if it isn't already too late!)
