I need help, I believe my smallest gosling has an impacted crop. It's very hard, she won't get up, eat, or drink. When I picked her up, she was shaking a lot. Out of desperation I syringed a couple mL of olive oil down her very slowly and messaged her crop.
We don't have avian vets here, you guys knowledge are her only hope. Please tell me how to help her!

Thanks, in my panic I didn't realize I posted this on the introduction section. I only joined yesterday and am still trying to figure things out.
Thank you sooo much for the help.

Welcome to BYC!

Oil is not good for impacted crops as it gums up the impaction worse. Water water and more water. Then massage the crop after giving water. Do this every hour all day long with no food, and generally, if this crop issue is not caused by something else, the impaction will move.

Kelsie has given you the link to the emergency section. Good luck with your gosling and I hope she makes a full recovery.

Thanks! I don't like seeing any animal suffer and want to help her. Do you know if impacted crop causes head shaking behavior? Cause she is shaking her head and kinda twitching.

They twitch the neck when the crop is uncomfortable. Try to get water down her throat. Use a tube or even an empty syringe. If you use the syringe method, fill up about 2 or 3 ccs of water. Sit down on a bench with her and wrap your arm around her and use your same hand and fingers to open the beak. Hold the beak level. Not up or down. But level so the water goes down the right pipe. Very slowly and tiny amounts at a time, squeeze some slowly right out on the middle of the tongue. Not underneath and don't squeeze fast. Slowly so the water dribbles in. It may take 5 mins to get this much water down her, but that is ok. You don't want the water to go into the lungs. Do it slowly. Then massage her crop well to break up the impaction. It will not break down by itself. Keep doing this once an hour and by night fall she should start pooping. You can even add some epsom salt to this water to help move her entire GI tract. Don't feed her anything until this impaction moves.

I have been giving her water since it was first recommended to do so instead of oil. This last time I did add some epsome salt to it. The crop doesn't feel as hard, so I think it's working. But I'm still very concerned, the poor dear can't stand, when she tries she ends up her butt and the backs of her legs. Is this a symptom of the crop or something else? I have already separated her from my other birds just to be safe.

I think the crop is empty or close to, she actually drank water on her own just now! My husband has her on a towel in his lap. She still hasn't pooped and is very weak, her wings are dropped and she still won't stand and her head still shakes, but I'm hopeful that since she is drinking voluntarily she might be ok.
