Help!!! Guinea Pig In Distress!!

It's okay. I know I would be really upset if it was one of my hedgehogs, and would probably have done the same thing.

I never realized that it's Sunday. I know the situation - there are NO emergency clinics close enough to us to be of any help if something goes wrong with one of our hogs. I hope he pulls through for you and you can get him help in the morning.

Thank you everyone....the environment is calm and quiet now and I'm about to cover his cage up a bit....he is squealing and moaning alot...I'm hoping to make it through the night and get to a vet asap in the morning...
Sorry if I don't seem to be responsible on this...I'm trying darn hard...I can't get ahold of the veterinary school either so...

Good morning everyone,

My dear Pipsqueak has become progressively worse over night, and I've found that a couple of different things couldve caused this. Lead in the paint on his cage, a brain tumor (rare), or even parasites could've done it.

He cannot squeal at all, and he is coughing hard. No water has been drank, and I see no fresh feces. His head is still sideways. While medication is an option, some may know that it doesn't always stop seizures. Plus, we have no idea what may have happened in the conditions he came from. I'm going to take him to the humane society with me first at 7. If they can't help, it's the vet clinic as soon as they open at 7:30.

I'll update on how it goes, though I'm feeling that it isn't so well. I wish I could've found someone open last night to examine him....uggh

I'm sorry about your pig. Has he been getting fresh greens everyday? They don't produce their own Vit. C, and need fresh greens daily. I hope the vet can help you.

Yes, he gets regular outdoor (supervised) time while also eating Timothy hay and his regular pellets

How long has he been in your care? Could he be suffering from withdrawal from the meth environment? I know this happens with animals and kids who are removed from that type of atmosphere.

I'm not sure what the conditions were but maybe there was an issue of withdrawal.

I took him to the shelter where one of my managers that monitors veterinary care (trained to do euthanasia and examinations) looked him over. He was quiet in the car ride but when we stepped inside the quiet intake area, he started squealing to the best of his ability and jumping. A white foam started to come from his nose. Personally believing it's best to be with them, he was put to sleep and passed away I my arms. He looked very bad, and I couldn't let him suffer...

If you disagree with the decision, discuss it with yourself. I'm just putting that out there, because opinions vary on this subject.

He was a sweet little guy though, and I am going to miss him.
Rest easy now, "Pipsqueak" Dusty Scotchham. (named by my brother

I think you made the right decision, as hard as it was, you put him out of pain and that is the best we can do sometimes.

So sorry you had to go through that. I agree with your decision and am glad Pipsqueak is at peace now. I thought about him all night. You were a great Mom and did all you could. I hope his siblings are ok.

The siblings are why I had to foster him, actually. The daddy hurt the other three and they didn't make it. Pipsqueak was the only baby left, and he was just a couple of days old. Mom piggy wasn't with them. So I had to seperate him from the daddy. The dad was adopted to someone else and I ended up so in love with Pipsqueak that I adopted him. Needless to say, the household has been crying (except my brother, who is at school and doesn't know yet....)
