as a suggestion...
i think i would toss the hay.. go with paper towels in the bottom.. and add at least 1 more bowl of water with a sponge since you only have a towel on top...
I wish we had some way to monitor your humidity. but with just a cloth on the top.. i'm afraid you're going to lose too much moisture

What do you think that I could do, I had to move in into the cardboard box in the plastic still, and I now have the towel over the top of the flaps. And I had to adjust a few things but now it is fine. Should I fold the towel in half and double it? I have a full showering towel on it right now. I will catch a pic in the morning. Night.

( for me that is)

the towel is great for air exchange.. but not so great for holding in 80% humidity.. so try the extra dish of water first (with a sponge).. if that's still not high enough you may need to mist the insides of the bin or even dampen the towel a bit.. BUT if you do dampen the towel keep a watch on your temps so they don't spike too high

any idea what the humidity is in your house?

Questions:
~ if i found the egg on june 30 and today is july 24, how old is he??? (assuming that he handn't been incubated before)

~what day is lockdown?

~what do you think of the candling pic???( sorry that it was so blurry)

~ why should i pitch the hay? what is wrong with it?

~ how to measure the humidity without a hydrometer(?)

I can only answer one of your questions but the hay can get hot and catch on fire with that light in there. If you use paper towels and have them damp that's less of a chance for fire.

Good luck.

ok.. assuming you started incubation on June 30.. that would make the embryo 24 days old on July 24th and due to hatch under normal circumstances on the 28th
so going by that .. the first 24 days for a turkey would be the "incubation period".. after that would be lockdown..

for the candling pic.. what day was it taken?.. if early on.. could be viable.. if late in the incubation most of that egg should be very dark.. (so it should not be glowing).. if you check the sticky at the top of the incubation section there is a link for candling chicken eggs.. the same images would be the same for any bird.. the days would just be off a bit depending on length of incubation required...

the hay is more likely to mold.. will be a fire hazard and isn't the best thing for a turkey poult to hatch out in.. plus paper towels are more sanitary.. turkey poults even though they are bigger than a chicken chick are a lot weaker.. they are more susceptible to infection and early death as a chick.. being a "wild turkey" this one should have a better immune system.. but why make things harder on it if you can avoid it?

the only other way that I am aware of to measure humidity without a hygrometer would be a wet/dry bulb thermometer

the egg was taken about day 18-20 i forget but around then. when i saw candling it, it was not that funny color, it it hard to explain but it was different. i have changed the straw to paper towels and i am just waiting for the pictures to load. will post them soon.

so does that mean that i should go into lockdown today or tomorrow??
