I personally would be cautious about over handling it. You don’t know if there are sharp edges that could do more damage to any other blood vessels with the slightest movement. Maybe try an inspection without actually picking it up?

I have already done it. Don't worry, I was very careful. It actually didn't look too bad. I moved the pointy shell bits away from the chick and moistened the membrane but that was basically all I could do. I have raised the humidity.

I checked on her just then. She died . And the broody just sat on the wrong nest for like an hour so she probably killed the two remaining eggs. And I am now worried about the bator eggs being exposed to bacteria from the crushed egg. This was not a good day.

I took the two eggs from the broody as I feared for their safety. They are still alive. One was chirping and moving! They are in the incubator. Once the chicks hatch I will give her the babies. She is a good mum and has brooded before but has kept getting confused with her nests. We have a large cage ready to go for her and the babies.
