Chirping
I have a 3 1/2 yo NHR hen. She has what I'm pretty sure is pendulous crop. It hasn't been an issue until now. I've searched both sour crop and impacted crop and have tried to remedy it but it's not helping.
Yesterday evening I went out and noticed her in the coop all fluffed up. The other chickens were out and about. I thought she was cold- our temps yesterday at this time was 30* (which I know isn't cold-cold to most but I'm in TX and considering it was 80* on Christmas, my chickens aren't used to below freezing weather). She went into the nesting box. I brought out some corn and veggie scraps, and she ran out to eat them. Didn't think much more about it. This morning I went out and she was again hesitant to leave the coop but was looking outside, all fluffed up. She finally did make her way out to the run but was mostly standing in the run all fluffed. I brought her in to warm up. I noticed when I brought her in her crop was kinda weird, and she kept closing one eye while standing. She wasn't interested in her food and she was just off. So I started researching BYC.
Her crop doesn't feel exactly like sour crop nor impacted crop. It kinda feels like a water balloon but not exactly liquid, It's firm-ish but not exactly hard like a lump. I gave her water with a splash of ACV, electrolytes and vitamins, and probiotics. She is drinking this like crazy when I hold it up to her beak, but she won't drink it on her own. I tried to give her some Monistat and coconut oil- she finally swallowed almost all of the mixture when I was spoon feeding her (seriously- the things we do for our chickens). Then I tried to massage her crop. That did not go well. She acts like it hurts her. She stood up and then was heaving like she was going to throw up but didn't. She's been randomly standing and doing that heaving motion since I first tried to massage her crop at about 11:30.
Now she's still drinking when we hold the water to her and seems like she loves the water but still won't go drink on her own. She's been inside since 8am and had not pooped at all. I don't know what to do now. She doesn't seem to be in much pain now and is alert, but she's definitely off. Help!
