Just wanted to see if anybody has some different ideas.
Our 7 month old Delaware hen is sounding like a percolator.
We suspect a bad case of CRD.
She is isolated from the rest of the flock.
Symptoms include;
Gurgling in the throat.
Eyes are clear and bright
No discharge from eyes or nose.
She is lathargic wanting to just stay in the roosting house
Eating and drinking very little.
Crop is flat
Quit laying about 6 days ago and not egg bound
Wants to sleep alot
So far poo looks normal (semi-firm with small white cap)
Stands tall, not droopy
Throat appears to be clear
Main symptom is the gurgle which is quite loud when she is awake and very faint when sleeping.
Currently giving her Auromycin medicated crumbles in her food which she eats very little of. Poly-Vi-Sol as much as we can force down her and VetRX to try to clear her head. Am going to switch from the Auromycin to Terramycin this afternoon.
Was wondering if a sulfa drug might be more beneficial than the mycins.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Eric

Eric,

This is what I use & usually 2 doses clears it right up. Jeffers carries this antibiotic. www.jefferslivestock.com I inject SQ using .5cc's each day for two days.

I've not only used it on my chickens, but parakeet & goats, too.

post back with updates..
if the LA-200 doesn't show improvement in a few days..
then you'll need to go to Tylan or erythromycin.
LA-200 is a good med.
