Help! Hen with possible sour crop and worms.

There are many species of tapes, so IMO I think you should go to your nearest feed store and get some Equimax. If they don't have Eqimax, get Zimectrin Gold. Zimectin Gold has half the praziquantel in it, so if you get that the dose is 0.5 ml.

I forgot to mention that you need to repeat the dose in 10-14 days.

Thanks Kathy! I will head on down to our feed store to see if they have this. She’s on the smaller size for a SS. I’d say she’s about 5 lbs, but I will weigh her when I get home. Can that paste be disguised in food, or is it best to syringe?

Here is the formula I use:
Equimax
weight in pounds, divide by 2.2. times 10. divide by 140.3 = number of ml to give.
5 / 2.2 x 10 / 140.3 = 0.16199053975 ml. I would round up to 0.2 ml

Zimectrin Gold
weight in pounds, divide by 2.2. times 10. divide by 77.5 = number of ml to give.
5 / 2.2 x 10 / 77.5 = 0.29325513196. I would round up to 0.3 ml

The 10 number is based on what my veterinary dosing books suggest for the common chicken tapeworm.

I was able to get the Equimax, so I only give 1 dose of .25ml (1/4 cc) and 1 more 10-14 days later?

@tarahharlin I think worming is where you should start. The monistat can't hurt to keep the yeasts at bay while you worm until they are all cleared out.
Thanks! I got the Equimax, so I will do that along with the Monistat. I love this little hen, so I will do whatever is necessary in hopes it all helps her feel better.
