HELP!! How long can a broody hen safely leave her nest?

We have a chick!!! I wasn’t expecting them until tomorrow but we have an early bird :love. Still two eggs waiting to hatch...hopefully soon!!! I took a video, he’s a screen shot of the one babe @PouleChick

@PouleChick we have two babies and a pip!! :woot I was reading your post last night and discovered that it is OK to briefly remove the hen to check and see what’s going on. She was hiding a freshly hatched little baby and I saw the outer PIP on the third egg! I’m so excited and SO nervous!! I hope the third little guy makes it out OK!:fl

So happy you only lost one baby and that you have some little
Cuties to show for all of that waiting! Bummer that so many weren’t fertile, but I think I would take that any day over losing that many babies. Congratulations! We are both new chicken mamas! :lau

Oh my they are soooo gorgeous! Any news on number 3? What sort are they (sorry I'm sure you have told me but I'm so vague - I forgot to pick up my middle son from school the other week - to be fair he normally takes the bus and he had a detention and I forgot :lau)?
I hope your shift stayed sane and you get some sleep!

Still only two babies, no change in the pipped egg :(. So, we’ll see what happens with that one :fl. How long do you think I should wait? My thought is to just leave her be until she leaves the nest, or a few days...whichever comes first. I have no idea what kind they are! I have 15 laying hens and 1 rooster. So I know for a fact that they are barred rock rooster crossed with...? The little black one, according to my research looks like a black sex linked Roo. No idea what the little blonde one is. They both came from lighter colored brown eggs, so I’m assuming buff orpington or astrslorp. I also have a RIR that it could be I suppose. Either way, I am excited to see how they feather out and what characteristics they take from their parents!

I LOL about forgetting your son. I’ve done that too!! I hate
When they don’t take the bus. It throws me off!

Oh how exciting totally unknown! Did you lift her up again?
I did briefly just long enough to see if there was change in the pipped egg. Got a short glimpse of the blonde bird and then let her be. I’m anxious now!!
Just an added punishment for whatever he did to get detention. Maybe he'll think twice next time ;)
:yuckyuck:lau:lau:lau Love it!!!

All three babies hatched!! She had another egg under her that I knew wasn’t fertilized because it was from one of my smaller hands. I’m assuming that’s why she refused to leave the nest? But just now when I went to check on her I noticed that there were two little black babies! So I took the fourth egg and hopefully now she will relax and take care of her babies!

That is so cool! Any pics? How are they doing?
