Glad you said something about the peroxide! I've been putting that on animal's wounds for years!

My daughter who works in dermatology has said the same thing regarding peroxide. They do not put it on wounds.

A cockerel broiler? I've never seen one! I didn't know they let them live so long. I have another broiler that bounced off a truck. Thankfully for her in the summer time. I'm very careful with her diet, though I know her life is short. She's around a year old, and fat as a tick, but seems to have a decent quality of life. I'll keep this one going as long as I can. And I don't have a roo so I won't be expecting many fights if she turns out to be a he. Though I can't imagine them being very masculine.

Chlorhexidine rinse is a good topical wash and good for wound irrigation as well. Even just a sterile saline solution to irrigate well, followed by an application of iodine will work. If you can get the wound well cleaned and have access to oral or injectable antibiotics then I would go ahead and close a wound like that one up as long as there is still good blood supply to the flap of tissue.

If the skin is not dead, it could work. I've stitched chickens skin together with just sterilized thin fishing line. Just a few stitches, and removed after five days. I think it was five. Don't want to wait too long or removal is difficult. Have to make sure your knot is visable and you can snip it loose when time is up. And you would want to gently rub the skin in a circle slightly a couple of times a day to keep it from sticking to the muscle. But, as much time that has passed and the frozen conditions the bird experienced, I would think some of that tissue has died.
Otherwise, I would try WonderDust. I had similar situation with torn skin and exposed muscles on a hen once. I rinsed it well then applied the WonderDust. It has antibiotic properties and helps put a scab on the wound. It worked quickly even though it looked ugly and black for some time. It's like a powder that you puff on the wound. I have found it in feed stores in the horse section.

Got all stitched up at the vet today. Things were getting infected despite the antibiotics. Her wing and toe are also broken.
