Yesterday was hatch day. In the morning I had the horrible luck with the power going out for 3+hours. I had a few active eggs moving, chirps, and one especially active egg. I dont have a backup power supply, (its on the shopping list when the money is there) so I googled and did the advice of wrapping the incubator with towels, and I even wrapped that in tinfoil and had a hot water bottle directly on the top of the incubator ( my water cooler was still full of hot water thankfully) to keep the heat for as long as possible in. When the power came back on I still had active eggs but I had one start to hatch and get its beak stuck outside the shell which didn’t break correctly while hatching with a very clearly dried inside. I could see it didnt make it, and I panicked and removed the chick. But I'm worried opening the incubator now I may have shrink wrapped the rest of the lot. No visible external pips, though my incubator doesnt have the best viewing. This was at 6 am and they have not moved or chirped at all since, only the very active egg is very rarely moving minimally now. Should I wait it out because its only a day after hatch day, Though normally my silkies generally hatch much earlier than 22 days. I’ve never failed so badly hatching eggs before, it always gone smoothly. Or do I meddle and see if an egg internally pipped and is shrink wrapped? The humidity is currently at 70%. I don’t want to make matters any worse than I already have. I know better than to be opening the incubator at such a crucial time.
