That's three for Delawares... which will go over 2.5ft fence.

I agree with the one who said they don't think 2.5ft is going to keep any chicken in. Even lazy Barnevelders would go over. You need twice that... 5 ft. Four feet will keep some in... but 5 would be better to keep everyone in.

I hear Buff Orpingtons (of which I have one), being heavy birds, won't try to fly over shorter fences. They can be very personable. And Brahmas are also pretty big birds, so once they are fully grown, they won't be trying to fly over anything tall.

Standard cochins rarely fly, and I can't say I've seen a silkie fly either. They both make great pets, and would be suited for MN weather. Just have to watch roo's combs in the winter.

My Orps cleared every berry off my blueberry bushes that are 4ft high.

well, i guess i could get a 4 foot tall fence, but they are staying in the garage for about a fourth of the day (thats where the hutch is going to be. but brahmas and orps would not work, i'd have to crame a pair of them in this hutch

but thats where the run comes in.

Ive had an EE and a dominique go over my 7 foot tall fence. I think 2.5 is nothing to a chicken...well my big orp roo might stay in a 2.5 foot fence

Minnesota.....might have to look for Pea combed birds (buckeyes, Ameraucanas, easter Eggers). I love the look of a big single comb like the Delawares have, but those combs and lovely wattles get significant frostbite damage. Maybe yours would be ok in the garage.

Seems like a small coop, 2 birds at most.

I have trained my birds to a 42" high electric mesh fence. They can and do go over a 48" non-electric fence, but they want nothing to do with the electric one once they are trained to it.

Only thing thats not going to fly over a 2.5 foot chicken fence would be silkies or cochins LOL

IT might just have been my silkies.. btu when i had silkies they couldnt get 1 foot off the ground. And they are great pets, brooders, and very sweet.

My buff orps fly over everything. I wouldnt suggest EEs either.. My EEs also fly all over the place.
