Hi I am a first time chicken owner and I originally got a bunch of different chickens from different places without realizing that there are sicknesses that chickens can carry into your flock and I have two chickens that are completely fine one chicken that has bubbles in his eye, one chicken who cant breath very well, and the other two are just tired. they’ve all been around each other so I feel like they probably all have what I’m assuming is MG I don’t have anywhere to quarantine them away from each other and I heard that it stays in their system for the rest of your life I don’t know if I should just put my chickens are together And chance them I don’t have anywhere to quarantine them away from each other I have three of them inside while the other three are outside and it’s becoming too much I can’t keep them inside I don’t have a separate place for them outside and I heard that it stays in their system for the rest of their life I don’t know if I should just put my chickens all together and chance them being outside All together or do I kill them all? I don’t really understand this disease I don’t know if you can eat the eggs of chicken to have it and if it matters I don’t know how to keep them away from birds in my yard and I don’t know how to keep the birds out of my yard I have a really big yard. I have no idea what I’m doing I’m freaking out because I feel so bad that I just brought these chickens home to their death can you have chickens that carry this sickness and still eat their eggs? Do you have to kill them or give them medicine because after antibiotics I don’t think I would feel very comfortable eating the eggs. I don’t know what to do My parents are telling me to just put them outside and let them do what they got do and if they die they die there’s just chickens but i just was wondering if this was a good choice? And if i could just keep them outside and see if they survive? Or is it dangerous for me to keep chickens that are carriers?

It sounds like your heart is in the right place. Its hard to see them suffering and not be able to help them much. If you are not able to separate them what ever it is may be catchy. Is there someone who can take the ones who are not ill? Perhaps a rescue facility. I am sorry you are in this situation.

Can you try and clean off the eyes of the two with eye bubbles with saline or a clean wet cloth, and apply a dab of Terramycin Eye Ointment, plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment twice a day? Yes, you can eat the eggs, unless you treat with oral or injectable antibiotics. The Neosporin or Terramycin does not affect eggs. You can treat them with Tylosin in their water if you can order some online. Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 3-5 days. There is only a one day egg withdrawal time after Tylosin. Here is a link for that:

Do not rehome them if you think they may have a contagious disease!

Let's start with a few details that might help the experts give you some answers, okay? Chicken illness is really tricky to diagnose without seeing them in person and having access to a vet, so the more information you can give the better, and if your able to show some pictures of your chickens and how your keeping them, that would help too! I know this is really stressful, but try to be calm and clear :hugs

How about the basics. How old are they? What are you feeding them? What sort of coop set up do you have outside? Have they been mixed together already or have you always kept them seperate?

The ones that have breathing problems and bubbles in their eyes, are they inside or out? How much ventilation and how clean is their enclosure? Is it possible that the ammonia levels are a bit high? When did they start looking/acting sick?

The sleepy ones, what does their poop look like?
