help! I have a 7 yr old son that wants a leghorn rooster!

Plus they come from fighting stock. What young boy wouldn't want a rooster with knives tied to his feet. You wont have to buy him anymore transformers or GI Joes.

Love it!

Which ones come from fighting stock? All roos have spurs and can be mean. The OEGB I've delt with weren't agressive. Besides I'd much rather have a one pound roo than a 8 pound roo around a child. If he did decide to get nasty I like the idea of the smaller size.

The hens are super docile and some of the roos are too. My grandmother raises them and the kids carry them around like kittens. She has had one roo with an attitude but the kids didn't even notice he was flogging them. They thought he was just playing.

assumed the roosters bred from fightin' stock to be the leghorns... I found the breed you are talking about! ideal has them, so I'll order him a few from them monday ( just in time for his b-day!) it'll be perfect! I really like the smaller size too! Thanks!

Oh I was just jokin around. Dont take me seriously. I didnt mean to say that OEGB were more aggressive than any other breed.

I was just referring to the fact that they were originally a breed that was made specifically as a fighting cock. Most Breeds with Game in their name were. Thats what "game" means in chickens, gaming or gambling over the fights.

But Cock fighting was outlawed in England over 150 years ago. Being show birds now, fighting prowess isn't something theyre bred for.

Anyhoo. I didnt meant to hijack the thread. I think that its great that a young boy is taking an interest in raising chickens. If you get him a bird that he likes the looks of and can identify with, I imagine he will enjoy the experience that much more.
