Help! I just got some free 10 day old incubated eggs! *hatching!!*

I would definately candle the eggs to see if there is anything going on in there. All the temp fluctuations worries me a bit but anything is possible. My broody hen got off her nest on a daily basis but not for long periods of time. ANother broody i had got off her nest and a roo got in and buried her eggs, for hours they were buried, one egg hatched the others didn't. I hope these lil peeps make it for you.

Ok, I purchased a 1602N Thermal Air Hova-Bator, I set it up and have it plugged in warming up. The eggs are doing fine, they were at 99 when I got home from the store. I'll move them when the Hova bator get up to temp. Thanks for all the advice and encouragement! I'll be delighted even if one hatches, but I know it's a long shot! If you would like to please keep my eggies in your prayers!

Now I'm going to see about that candler...I used to work in vaccine production and candled eggs all day for a living! THOUSANDS of them, so I know what to look for. In fact the job made me want to stop eating eggs...and here I am hatching some! Life is funny!

Ok, I let my 'bator heat up most of the day, and the temp was holding at 97 for a good three hours...so I put the eggs in. I have a digital thermometer with a sensor on a long wire inside it, and I think that gives me a more accurate temp reading. I have not candled them yet, but perhapse in a few days I will. I think I can use a TP tube and a light bulb and some foil to McGuiver myself a candler. Anyway, thanks again for all the help and encouragement! I'll be delighted even if I get one!

Well I candled six and two looked infertil, just yellow with no veins. The others looked fine with lots of thin veins, no red rings.

BTW, my make shift candeler was simple. I used a goose neck lamp with a mental "shade" and bent it so it was pointing up. I wrapped foil around it and then around a TP tube. You have to be careful so that the TP isn't touching the bulb, but it works, not great, but it works. It might be better with a 100 watt bulb. I was only using a 40. Oh and the darker the room the better. I was doing this at night. It probably woudldn't work at all in the day.

I candled the rest this morning, and I think this is what I have this far...

6- Infertile
2- Dead
10-good ??

I'm going to candle them again on Thursday for Friday. Friday is day 18, so I'm going to add water to "compartment B" to up the humidity.
