I feel awful and very upset.
Had a minor red mites infestation last week. Not bad but enough for me to seek extra measures.
Cleaned out all hen houses and then was advised to use Indorex spray. Used it and kept hens out for several hours and then let them use it again.
I have a couple of hen houses and the one sprayed is their preferred house. For the last couple of nights they've all decided to not use it anymore and try and squeeze into the on further down. So last night I shut them up and 3 of my 12 week old chicks were running about so I put them in the middle house that was sprayed at the weekend.
Come down this morning and 2 out of the 3 are dead! I'm so upset. They were perfectly healthy otherwise. No marks on them, a good weight etc.
Indorex is supposed to be safe after 1hr so given its been 4 days since I used it, could that really have been what killed them? ☹️

Sorry for your loss. :(

According to research... the spray should not have been the cause of death. Can you describe how you found the bodies (their posture and placement) and the behavior of the survivor? Were they freaked out at all or nervous, as if visited by a weasel who's bite marks might be hard to see on the neck of deceased?

I never heard of that spray.. are you in the UK? If in the US, I have links to help with getting a necropsy and determining cause of death which would be my number one suggestion so you now exactly what happened and if you need to take any steps to protect the rest of your flock. I think @rebrascora might be in the UK. Adding your general location to your profile can help peep make the most relevant suggestions possible at a glance.

Thanks for your reply. I used Indorex as I had read (and been told) that it's safe to use with chickens. They have automatic doors so they were all out by the time I arrived. The one that survived is acting like nothing had happened. The two dead were just laid out, one on its back in the corner of the coop and one on its side on the floor. I can't find any bite marks and I locked them in bed last night so I'm confident nothing got in. I had a stoat /weasel attack last year when I didn't lock them away and it ate part of one so I'd have thought if it did it again it would have eaten part of one at least?
