*help* i think my hen has sour crop!? *sad update we lost her*

Have you had your birds tested with a fecal egg count to see that they're really dewormed? 2 tablespoons to a gallon of water actually won't remove worms - it's the same pH of the gut already.

threehorses, could you explain how i would get the contents out, as in getting her to puke. you mentioned this in an earlier post. i got her to eat some oily bread a minute ago, she is skin and bones. her poop is brownish green and watery, is the color a good thing? should i not be giving her food, just ACV to help her move the food through? i am already giving her a lot of vinegar, but she is not getting any better.

Honestly at this point, I'd be massaging it gently downwards like you want it to leave. Do little pieces of the bread with the oil. The ACV for 24 hours, but every hour or so massage the crop contents. What you're trying to do is break up the "sedimentation" (the settling and clumping) of food in the crop, move the contents down into the next section. That way if there are hard food particles (corn, etc) you're going to unplug the opening to the proventriculus. The contents will resettle, you'll massage the crop again to allow what can pass to pass. No food other than the bread with the oil on it for today. The ACV will hopefully dissolve the food in there and kill the fungus.

ok, she has been inside for a couple of days. should i let her go out with the others i bit tomorrow to get some sunshine and to move around a bit, or do you think that would be to much on her as weak as she is?

If she goes out, she'll eat solid foods. So she stays in. But what's her status now? Did the crop empty finally? So you can start feeding her easily dissolved foods again?

i have bad news she passed away yesterday

i heard thrashing in the box and ran to look, she seemed to be having a seizure... i scooped her up and she relaxed. she slowly closed her eyes... my little one will be greatly missed.

thanks guys, at least she is not suffering now. as threehorses knows she has been sick for a while, and i just found out what was wrong with her recently. maybe if i would have known earlier i could have helped her.
