Help ID... 14 dead in box! Warning - Dead chick pics

Thakns you guys... I posted pics of the survivors in the "what breed is this" section... they might be easier to ID...

*SIGH*!!!

Well, at least I'm going to get my silkies this weekend... and I'm going to pick them up so there won't be a repeat of this... well, until June.. argh...

I'm wondering if it's my fault for not ordering them from a closer breeder? They were shipped Monday and arrived this morning... so that's in the safe window right?

I am in PA and the breeder is in Iowa...

I hope the other shipment comes ok or I'll feel like a chick murderer...

On a happy note, the one little chick that I thought was going to die has started peeping again and trying to walk around... she was just laying there for quite a long time... (I kept dipping her beak in water and gave her a little pile of food... Maybe she'll live after all? She's one of the black and white ones...

Poor babies...

Wow...I czn't imagine anything worse than this...I'm so sorry you are going through this...I'm alwayss surprised at how well the chick shipping business goes...that shows you how resiliant they are...so to die in shipping must mean something bad happened...just know it isn't anything you did!!!!

Wow, I am so very sorry, I can't imagine opening the box to find all those poor ones dead, I hope the next shipment goes better.

I don't think that the shipping was too long. I ordered mine to be delivered on March 31. They were hatched the 28th at 5 pm, shipped the 29th, and I picked them up on the 31st at 7:30 in the morning, all happy and healthy. They were shipped from McMurry to South East Texas.

Some of the black ones look my black australorps did.

Im so sorry. How sad for you and your babies. One thing you may want to consider though is- keep your new babies separated from the survivors just in case they have something that the others could catch.

Good luck.

Oh how sad!

I am so sorry that this happened to you. No! It is not your fault AT ALL! The hatchery knows where they are shipping them to. It is up to them to tell you if it is to far or not. It doesn't sound like it was to far though. Maybe just very bad handling? Either way I wish you luck with your remaining babies and let us know when your replacements show up!

One time our feed store received several large boxes of chicks DOA in nice temperate weather... turns out that they'd been stacked next to a freezer or freezer boxes or something in transit. Maybe something like that happened. What an awful experience for you. I'm so sorry for the chicks, and for you too!!

Well I have some good news... The one little Astralorp (?) who I really thought was a goner has recovered! So I have 11 chicks out of the 25...

I have no idea what happened to them.. I'm very glad the hatchery is replacing them... It's just too bad I have to wait until June.. there will be a big size difference then and I won't be able to put them together for a few weeks... Bummer... Oh well, by the time the new ones come I'll probably be letting these out into the yard so I can put them into the main part of the coop and use the cardboard "brooder" they're in now to separate the new babies...

Life's always an adventure!!
