Definitely Not pawpaw or mango, wrong fruit and leaf shape.

Cut it open and look for multiple seeds or single stone. If multiple seeds, it looks like an apple variety. If single stone it will be one of the Stone fruits.

Is the skin smooth or furry? What size are the fruits?

Skin is not furry but not smooth like an apple, a bit rough, has some texture to it. Size is golf ball or just a smidge bigger than golf ball.

I think it's a flowering quince, one of the Chaenomeles species or hybrids, rather than the type of quince that's usually cultivated for its fruit, Cydonia oblonga. Flowering quinces sometimes have fruit, but I am not sure if it is edible. If it is, probably less palatable than Cydonia.

Good point, this is the only cluster of fruit on the bush. So, probably not grown for fruit.
