Help Identify Bantam Chicks

Does venom have short legs compared to an old English? Straight comb? Could be a Japanese. We got a little black Japanese girl out of the bantam bin.
He does have a straight comb. I’ll have to check his legs. He’s smaller than the barred one but violet is by far the smallest. She’s always been super tiny. I’m not sure what pepper is. Obviously barred but it seems a few come in barred

If he has short legs with yellow foot bottoms, he's a Black Japanese. Longer legs with pink foot bottoms = OEGB. :)

Barred OEGB, as shown by her build....love these little things! :love
Any idea why violet is sooo much smaller than pepper then? I figured all OEGB would be about the same size. She is a week younger but it shouldn’t be that much of a gap at this point.

Like us, they can vary in size and rate of growth, though there's a good chance she'll catch up eventually. :) I also know size can depend on the stock. For example, I've heard Ideal Poultry's OEGBs tend to be larger than Cackle Hatchery's OEGBs.

@tn_artist My heart just broke for you and your daughter. Blueberry was our favorite guy and my daughter and I often spoke about him and the possibility of meeting him brought smiles to us. I am so so sorry. One thing that I hope you and your daughter can take comfort in is the fact that whatever it was, it was fast. That can be scary too, but if it's going happen, I'm grateful that it didn't drag on for him and for you guys. I believe I know exactly which storm you are referring to. Was it the morning that tornadoes came through a couple of weeks ago? We had our first loss a couple of weeks ago. A neighbors dog that is allowed to roam every morning came through and killed "Drake", our favorite drake. He was a gorgeously huge drake and was the most handsome Pekin I've ever seen, even though Pekins generally look extremely similar to one another, this guy was massive and he was gorgeous! I can't get your daughter off my mind. She's had so much loss. I know she really wanted some Seramas and to know that she got some and lost them, my heart breaks for her, and for you that not only has to deal with the pain of losing these birds that we get attached to, but also have to see your daughter through it. She's lucky to have you. Please know that my heart goes out to you both and I'm sending you both virtual hugs.

I got some pictur

poor blueberry! He had like a fan club here! It’s been the worst year for chicks for us. We lost theee adults early in the year to a coon, we hatched our first 3 this year and they all died in 24 hours still not sure why, we lost 3 bantams (2 to injury and 1 to congenital I believe) and 1 turkey poult

OH no! My heart breaks for you too! I know you were so excited for the chicks. I'm sending you virtual hugs too. I hope you're not going to give up on hatching. I'm sure that had to be difficult to lose them after so much excitement and then for them to hatch, I'm so sorry. I didn't know you had turkeys too. Was this your only one or do you still have others?

View attachment 2112487This is violet our self blue. Also not frizzled likeI thought/hoped
She has those huge beautiful eyes too! Maybe it's just a thing with the Self Blue OEGB. I absolutely love those big ol eyes. They look so sweet and innocent. Blueberry also had big gorgeously handsome eyes, so I'm guessing it's one of their special qualities

View attachment 2112491This is Pom Pom. I originally thought black with a white crest but I think she is looking more blue. Also not sure she’s a she but I think so lol

I LOVE crested birds, any and all of them. They're actually some of my top favorites out of all birds! I love your adorable bird! Pullet or cockerel, it's stunning!!!

I believe my little X backed bird is a Japanese. His legs are so short so he is the shortest out of my 10 chicks. His tail isn't like any of my OEGB either. He is Mottled though so I don't think he is an Black Tailed White, but he is such a special little guy. I need to post an update on the rest, including him, so you can tell me what you think. He was one that the other member I reached out to wasn't 100% positive on. They guessed he was probably Japanese and BTW, but said he could be Mottled OEGB. He is definitely a cockerel, so no doubt there. Do you have a mate for your black Japanese Pullet? He is probably my favorite little guy, well him and the frizzled white cochin are my favorites
