We hatched some chicks a little bit ago and now they are two months old and I'm curious about their gender. Their dad was some kind of black EE and most of their parents are backyard mixes + two Rode Island Reds. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

First up this is Licorice:

I'm thinking male because his comb is pretty red and he seems to be developing sickle feathers.

Next is Autumn:

I'm pretty sure she's a female.

This is Brimstone (Brim for short):

Not sure about this one. He has a weirdly deep voice and is on the bigger side, so I'm thinking maybe male? His coloring is weird too, he's more of a chalky black without any iridescence on his feathers and the color on his cape is more yellow rather than the orange-red like the others. As a baby he also had much shorter fluff.

Here is Pumpkin:

I think Pumpkin is a male because although his comb is still pretty pale I definitely think he has some sickle feathers. Is the red on his wing male specific?

This is Spring:

She is the smallest and I'm pretty positive she is a female.

Next up is Lightning:

I wanna say this one is a male. He also has a deep voice and is one the bigger side, but none of his fathering is really telling me male yet.

And here is Treble:

I'm not sure about him but I'm kinda leaning towards male. He has a problem with his foot and we didn't fix it fast enough so we might decide to put him down.

This here is Thunder:

I'm pretty sure she is a female.

And finally this is Amber:

At first I thought Amber was a girl and none of her feathers show otherwise yet (as far as I can tell), but she has a pretty red comb so I'm not sure.

So yeah, these are my babies. I think they all inherited the puffy check feathers from their dad and I'm excited to see their egg colors, and to hear your opinions on their genders and maybe their breed mixtures as well. Thanks!

Feather colour and patterning can sometimes indicate sex earlier, but two months is still a bit early for the types/shapes of feathers that only males get. Saddle feathers start to come in at around 8-9 weeks old at the earliest but often closer to 12 weeks and sometimes even later. Hackle and sickle feathers generally come in a bit later. Male saddle feathers will first be noticeable when they start to grow in between the middle of the back and the base of the tail. They'll be long, narrow and pointy once they've grown out but when they first start showing they're sometimes easier to ID by the way they look kind of wet or oily.
You can see that on the cockerel at the front here, just behind and to the left of the branch in front of him:

Both young cockerels and pullets can have tail feathers that seem to curve down or upwards or stick out a really long way, especially when they're just about to lose them in a moult.

I think it’s late enough to tell! After 8 weeks, my average this year has been 1 in 12 wrong guesses!! lol 😂😂😂
Hmmm, I’d say your boys are:
Licorice
Pumpkin
Treble
And Amber

Lightning and Thunder are looking pretty girlie to me!

But of course, you need a more professional opinion…..

I agree, Licorice, Pumpkin, Treble and Amber are boys.

Autumn, Brim, Spring, Thunder and Lightning all look like girls.

Tail feathers mean nothing at this age. Males don't grow their sickle feathers until after the pointy male saddle feathers are obvious.

I'm currently in agreement with the others, mainly due to the chunky legs and posturing that Licorice, Pumpkin, Treble and Amber have. However, that could just be the moment or angle captured in the photos.

It's a little early for sickle feathers. You'll likely know by 12-16 weeks because some beginning crows may start then also. Please keep us posted. Whatever they are, you wound up with a beautiful variety of chickens!

Licorice, Pumpkin and Treble are dudes.

Does Treble walk funny? My rooster has a wonky foot too and he walks a bit slow but he’s the best boy so I don’t worry about it. He can roost fine and do his job. So I wouldn’t be for culling Treble unless his foot is really affecting his quality of life.
Here’s my Nature Boy for reference, you can see how weird his left foot is:

He does walk funny and I don't think it hurts him and he keeps up ok but not super well. I wanna keep him but my parents might not want to
