Hi all, I am fairly new to having backyard chickens (since February). I've already dealt with my share of problems (losing 5 chicks to a dog and then later 5 pullets to a raccoon!). I also had a woman sell me pullets covered in lice (ugh) .So I'm a bit disturbed by the latest thing. I had a woman sell me two chickens she claimed were laying hens. They were in a cage at the time but now that I've gotten them home and looked at them more I'm afraid they are roosters . They are supposedly about 5-7 months old. Thoughts? And no they haven't laid any eggs in the 3 days I've had them. The black is a langshan and the other is a blue laced red Wyandotte.

Oh boy... you have gotten a terrible start. And yes those are indeed cockerels. :barnie

I would call her and ask to return her boys and get a refund. No accusations needed.

If there is no correct response... I MIGHT file charges for bait and switch... what she did is theft in my eyes.
I did text her asking her to send me a refund (she lives 2 hours away and I have no desire to drive back). I just told her a friend confirmed they were male. I paid $60 so I hope she refunds but she has yet to respond (and before she gave quick responses) so I am guessing I will never see the money. Not sure there is much I can do.
