Aloha all from the big island of Hawaii. I'm in a bit of a pickle trying to find a reputable place that will send me chicks/chickens. I've been through a few places on here looking specifically for buff orpington rooster for my girls. If you all are familiar with Hawaii you may already know that we have an over abundance of feral chickens and they are constantly trying to lure away my ladies so I'd like to get a rooster of my own preferably a male buff so I make some little chicky babies of my own and to keep these girls in check! I've already relocated the other chickens/roosters but they just KEEP COMING. Like where the hell are they all coming from lol... anyway, I had a hell of time trying to get some local but all I got were scams, some guy interisland on Oahu was telling me I needed to pay him in advance via Walmart gift card prior to shipping with Uship...I then asked if he would then need me to send his gift card to Nigeria next and if he happened to live in a castle or had some other royal ancestry going on?? Anyway, long story medium... I'm still here months later roosterless and battling the feral males away from my girls. I've contacted mypetchicken which won't send here anymore, and Asagi-which does ship interisland however they are not going to be hatching any new buff orpintons until February. So yah.. any other fellow Hawaiians or people that know about our quirky circumstances here on the islands please give me some advice, I'd be very much obliged :)

I've posted several times on CL, get a text message wanting me to click on a link or wanting monies sent somewhere or whatever ... It's a scam. I always block the numbers although they do come up with other numbers  So be very careful, as you hopefully figured out.

I've seen your ad, assuming you've got some Buffs and therefore wanting a Roo. You could try McMurray Hatchery (IA), Meyer Hatchery (OH), Hoover Hatchery (IA), Ideal Hatchery (TX), Jenks Hatchery (OR), Cackle Hatchery (MO) and there are several others but they have minimum orders and it's kind of late in the year due to weather conditions. I know for sure Meyer has a 3 minimum depending on the time of the year and availability.

The problem with ordering chicks is our Dept of Ag laws, they need to be "day old" chicks and the hatchery needs to follow guidelines. Then there's the Post Office to deal with

Del's brings in chick around March, they've recently changed their hatchery and hence what they bring in. I've heard that Pahoa Feed also orders/has chicks certain time of the year.

You may want to contact Candi 990-7313, she may know or have a BO Roo or cockerel. Texting her is the best, she's always busy with her animals. Good luck. As for those feral chickens, catch them & make some soup ;) Or get an air gun & practice target shooting;)

Ah, thanks Chick Nanny, so many great resources to try! I'll be googling "amazing chicken soup" recipes simultaneously :p
And with any luck, I'll be posting an update of a handsome roo soon, many mahalos!

I'm in So Kohala area and ordered from Ideal Poultry, received chicks this week. Also considered Murray McMurray and Meyer, all pretty darn good. Ideal did a good job, sent me 15 chicks in a small box with some Grogel to keep them hydrated and healthy during the trip. Make sure to follow the tracking closely - as soon as I got the message the PO had my chickies I drove there to pick them up. There were very apologetic and said they *should* have called me immediately, but ... they didn't, so I'm glad I showed up. They did all the Dept of Ag legwork and attached papers to comply. All hatcheries will have minimums, either price or number of chicks. Ideal warns that if there aren't enough chicks, they may add roosters to keep them warm. Also, I would definitely subscribe to their email updates... they post on hatch days and you can get awesome deals. I spent way more than I needed to by pre-ordering. USPS 3-day label was created on 10/15 by Ideal, they got to Austin on 10/16, arrived first thing in my PO morning on the 17th. Hope that helps a bit!

2x You need to really keep up to date with the tracking & tracking info not always updated :rant My friend's 3rd attempt almost was a disaster again. She didn't get any notification from the Hilo PO but showed up. The guy told her if she wasn't called, they're not there ... She heard chicks peeping  Long story short, they got into a little verbal issue but she got her chicks. She lost several, didn't want to go through the agony again so took a refund from Mc Murray.

Not sure how it is in Hilo but I've been pretty lucky that up here in Waimea at least the tracking info is updated. If I'm waiting for something important/timely I'll sign up for the text updates from USPS and follow it all the way. I got that notification, but not the call from the PO. Sorry to hear of your friend losing so many chicks, very sad.

Tadaaa, introducing our new Romeo!

I asked "hows the kick on this thing?" My guy replied it's got "a little kick" and 5 seconds later I got this pretty little thing from the scope jumping off my lanai railing ....I've shot air rifles before, and normal guns/rifles and this thing was not just a "little kick"! Air rifle on steroids! I am however, happy to report that I hit my target :thumbsup
