Our chicken tractor is 14x16, very roomy. The chicken yard itself is a movable 1/10th acre or over 4,000 square feet. We started w/31 chickens and 6 ducks to see how it would go w/predators and all before ordering the rest of our flock. Those I got on April 4 this year. On July 7, I went to hatchery and picked up 71 day old chicks and 12 more ducks. Because it's been so warm here we put them immediately in big rabbit cages inside the chicken tractor from the get-go w/light only on them at night. So flocks have been able to get acquainted together through cages for two weeks.

I tried a test run of one baby duck and one baby chicken with the flock and the attack was brutal enough I put them back in the cages before a serious injury could occur. I tried this inside and outside the chicken tractor.

Advice please. How long do I have to wait before I can safely let them out together? Should I go by size? Or the two-week time line mentioned in another post? Please help.

Thanks.

Connie
