Help! Is it Bumblefoot?

I have a young hen who is suddenly not putting weight on her left foot. She has been this way for a few days now. She is eating and drinking but not putting any weight at all on the leg. Yesterday I did not notice anything on the foot that might indicate an injury or infection but today I do see a very small red spot. It does not appear to be swollen. What can I do? Should I bring her inside until recovered?

You're focusing on bumblefoot when the problem could be a sprain or bruising, or even scaly leg mites.

Examine carefully the shanks, tops of the feet and between the toes.

Look for light green bruising, any redness and swelling, scales that are lifting away from the leg or toes. And look for splinters at the tips of the toes wedged under the nails. Look for broken or hanging nails.

For strains and sprains, it's best to limit activity until it heals. A chewable 81 grain aspirin twice a day can be given for pain. Pop one right into the beak.
