Help Is My Duckling In Trouble UPDATE--BABY PICTURES PAGE 3

At 2:50 pm the little guy finally made it free from the shell. I took the first 2 that hatched this morning out and put in the brooder, 3 more are still in the bator with the little guy. I finally decided when I took the first 2 out to help try and help free the little guy. I broke a small amount of the shell away from the top at 2:45 placed him back in the bator, and he came out on his own. I'm afraid he has been in the shell too long, his little neck is at a very strange angle. His foot was wrapped round his head in such a way he would have never got out on his own. I am hoping he is just weak from all the work to get out. This has been a VERY long day.. I still have little ones zipping. Oh, I hope the little fighter will be okay.

Sounds like it helped him. I bet it will now just take time for him to gain his strength and unfold properly.

Good Luck

I now have 20 babies. Sadly I waited to late to help one little guy who had pipped at the wrong end. It is so heartbreaking. I helped 3 who pipped at the wrong end and they seem to be doing fine. I do have good news. The little stinker who gave me so much anxiety yesterday and into the night last night, Is bouncing all over the brooder

.. His little neck is straitened up and his little foot that was turned back looks fine this morning.

Congratulations!! 20 WOW you are going to have your work cut out for you. Sorry about the one you lost. Its hard to know exactly when or if at all - when they pip the wrong end. They do naturally take longer due to lack of space to move around. I have helped a few - but now just spray the egg regularly to make sure they can move around and in most cases will hatch - sometimes as long as two days after the others. Glad to hear the special little one is doing well, Did you happen to look at the egg when it hatched to see what may have been causing the discoloration?
