Even though their eggs aren't big,Japanese bantams are a great egg layer, but often brood.
Newhampshires are also one known to be a pro layer, and are hardy.

I don't have a great deal of chicken experience but my red sex link hens are amazing layers. Just two ladies keep our protein loving family quite happy.

Welcome to BYC. It is a fun place to pick up all kinds of chicken knowledge'

I'm glad you joined us!

The most productive brown egg layers are probably Australorps, Rhode Island Reds, and Sex-links. The best white egg layer is the White Leghorn. Other breeds that generally lay well include Wyandottes, Orpingtons, Plymouth Rocks, and Easter Eggers.

I'm glad you joined our "flock".

Michael OShay and NorthFlChick have given you some good advice. The best egg layers will be the White Leghorn, Black Sex-Link, and Red Sex-Link, and they should do fine in your climate. If you want lots of eggs, choose them.
