Hi
Recently got a new Chicken with a week old chick. The Chick has injured its leg somehow in the last few days. I have not seen an injury like this before and I am unclear what to do? Does anyone know if this is a broken leg, splayed leg (she only holds one limp to the side), or something else? Would a splint help or would it just prolong her suffering? The leg is swollen at the knee joint but she can move it. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thank you for replying and the links. I will take a look. We had actually come to the same conclusion after lots of internet research last night. We have just tried to manoeuvre it into a better position with a makeshift splint as the chick was hobbling on tye joint and it was getting really swollen. The links will really help though. Could i ask one more question? If we decide PTS is tye best option how distresed will mum become. She becomes quite aggressive when we remove the chick to look it over and only has the one. Thanks for all the help
