Help! Its day 22 and I broke the shell but there is a chick inside

I had 3 eggs hatched on day 21 but 2 didn't so I thought it's time to open and see what happened. So I cracked open the air cell on one the eggs and I found the membrane still intact. There is lots of movement but no noise. Does this baby still have a chance?

you need to moisten the membrane....and get it back in with proper temp/humidity and maybe??? really need to give at least 48 hours from first hatch before calling it.....there are articles here on assisted hatching that may help!

I know that was dumb I should have waited. I have it back in the incubator and the humidity is at 80%. I also put a small damp cloth over the opening.

you should always candle if they go past day 22, put some coconut oil or Vaseline on the membrane and get it back in the incubator, as long as they haven't internally pipped you should be ok, some times chicks don't hatch on day 21, that is just a base number, if there was a cool spot in the incubator you can have chicks hatch up to day 25 as that slows down their growth rate. I would also red up on assisted hatching as you cracked it open it may need assistance getting out. you will have to watch it closer. and if it was slower growing due to a cool spot it may have issues. Anytime your going to set a hatch in incubator you fire incubator up 24 hours ahead of time and make sure it's stable and their are no cool spots, temps are stable and accurate.

coconut oil is preferable for membrane moistening if available....not sure if 80% humidity maybe too high??? but chicken eggs tend to be more “forgiving” as far as r/h IME. that all goes well and this baby hatches!! if it goes to 24 hours and still detectable movement, you may want to be prepared for assisted hatch ......timing is always the most difficult for me when determining whether to assist or not!

Timing is the biggest problem for most of us, if the movement seems more like it's tired not just resting or it's internally pipped and its chirps are sounding weaker, it's time to assist
