Help! I've been adopted by a rouge seabird (male/female?)

First of all, congratulations on your unexpected pet. I never had any idea how endearing peas would be until I lived around them. They have a lot of personality, and you will definitely become very attached to Frankie. And don't worry about questions!
But other people are so much more qualified to answer than I am, so I hope they jump in here.

To tell you the truth, I bet she will be a bit lonely by herself. Peas seem to be really social and like to spend time together. I rarely see a lone pea here except during breeding season when the guys get territorial. Maybe you can get her a friend? I glanced at Craigslist and there do seem to be people selling peas not too far from you (well, what do I know about Ohio geography).

Questions about cold feet will have to be answered by someone else who doesn't live in California!
The peas here to a large degree fend for themselves on the food front. I put out sunflower seeds, bread, fruit and vegetables but often the other creatures around here eat that stuff. My neighbors also put out seed and who knows what else.
I would say that Frankie will be thrilled if you put stuff out but she looks healthy so she clearly knows how to find her own food too. They are very resourceful.
But I'm sure other people here will have opinions about the feeding question.

This is the side view of Frankie. Thank you for letting me know she is a female. Wonder why she would wander away from her previous home? It is obvious she is not fearful of people as she lets me get within 3 ft of her. I see that your birds have a building. We don't have such and had not planned to make one. Should we, it will get below zero and will snow here (near Cincinnati, OH). It appears your house is off the ground. Due to coyotes etc this is surely necessary.
She is a beauty , if you are going to leave her loose i would not worry about a shelter unless you just want one for something else cause peas got a mind of their own, my sleep where ever thay want and that is in the trees and i have a great barn with a loft in the top that they stay up in sometimes in the daytime they never stay up there at night , they use to slepp on top the barn but after they learned how slippery it is when the tin gets wet they decided trees were better.

Your crew is beautiful. The guys are a gorgeous blue! Frankie has gone to roost for the night. That is when she begins to make calls. Tonight I thought perhaps I heard her being answered. It won't surprise me that she leaves us as unexpectedly as she arrived. Until that time we will enjoy her. I won't go look for a mate until I see she plans on staying. Too, I'm worried the males may get very noisy and I try to be a good neighbor. People who have dogs can put them up and stop the barking, but doubt there is anything you can do to make a pea fowl hush!

It was your photo of the two males and two females. How beautiful. The males color is striking.

Thanks, I think they're beautiful too. I'm sure others will disagree, but I actually think the girls are prettier, their colors are so subtle.
Good luck with Frankie for as long as she sticks with you.
Let us know how it goes!

Question about the peahen who has adopted me. If I build a frame to hold a huge plastic garbage can on it's side (slightly at a tilt down so will drain) and have it secured so it won't blow off. Having the can high off the ground would "my" peahen (I know I'm hers instead of other way around) use it during the winter and the driving rain, or would it be a waste of my time? If anyone thinks she would make use of it, how high off the ground should it be?
Thanks, Frankie's adoptive mother

Probley a waist of time, leave the garage door open ,i am sure she will make herself at home, mine sleep outside in all kinds of weather, they have severly high and dry roost but no they sleep in the trees in rain, snow, hail, and breaking limbs that send them crashing to the ground in the middle of the night yep sleeping in trees are for pea brains

I have a huge barn that built for my horses them darn horses stayed out in the weather to, but it was good to feed them in in bad weather

Thanks for the info. I was afraid that would be the case.
Thank you again for taking the time to answer my question. You see, I never planned on being a pea-owner so know nothing about them, but really enjoying this girl.

Martha C if you are within driving distance for me....and you do not want Frankie....I would be happy to come pick her up if you wanted her gone....she looks just like ours who are Indian blue. She would have a really nice home....Free Range in West Texas an put away at night. We love our Peafowl so much...such wonderful birds.
