HELP!! Lethargic hen

Start with VetRx. I don't promote brands either, but that one is usually available at your local TSC, or farm store. They have some nuclear antibiotics out there too, but she doesn't look like she needs that. Just use VetRx as per instructions and push water mixed with healthy fluids down here for a week or so until she looks like she bounces back, but again, isolate her.

p.s. Read the ingredients on the VetRx and try to mix your own solution by matching those ingredients as close as you can - its pretty natural and thats what I do. We all lose birds and with chickens its never gonna be a perfect world. Good luck again.

Fish antibiotics...amoxicillin 125mg x 3 a day. In pain? 1/2 a baby aspirin with the amoxicillin. It's pulled through a couple of my girls.
Lethargic? Yes, time for the vet. One of mine just died from cancer. I cancelled my vet appointment and my girl suffered for 4 extra days. (She rallied the day of the appointment. Thought I had a chance to heal her with meds.) My guilt is tremendous. If you can afford it, take her to the vet and get an x-Ray. That way you'll know for sure what you're dealing with. The new chick doesn't have a foul odor from her beak. She's about 2 months old. She acts like a normal chicken... it's just that her nose is runny and her eye infected.
I still have her. I'll separate her from the flock and I'll separate the Ameraucana as well.

Separate them both and only treat the ones showing symptoms. In the video your EE looks like she has some watery eyes as well.

Some of the most common respiratory illnesses are Infectious Bronchitis, Mycoplasma, Coryz and ILT. Any of these have similar symptoms.

You can try treating with an antibiotic like Injectable Tylan50. This can be found at most feed stores. Injectable Tylan50 can be given orally or by injection. Dosage is 1cc or ml per 5lbs. of weight, give 2x a day for 5days. You need to weigh each sick bird to get the proper dosage.

It's best to keep treatment SIMPLE. Offer some poultry vitamins to their water for a couple of days, see that they are staying hydrated. Give their normal chick starter.

Keep in mind that respiratory illnesses are contagious and birds that have been sick and birds that have been exposed to sick birds (even if they never show symptoms) are considered carriers for life. Antibiotics will only treat any secondary infections associated with respiratory illness.

It would be best to have some testing performed to know what you are dealing with-your vet or state lab can assist you with this. I encourage you to do some reading/research on respiratory illness and understand what carriers are and how it can affect your current flock and your future chicken keeping - especially if you are considering selling/trading/giving away hatching eggs, chicks, started pullets, etc.

Everything is closed today because of an holiday so I'll try to get some tomorrow. There's not much medications you can buy freely in Canada, at least in my area. I also don't have a lot of money... I'll see if I can gather some to pay for a vet. I took notes of what you guys are saying. Thank you.

I'm sorry, what is a EE? If it's the new bird yes she has an eye infection.

I read a lot about chicken diseases since 4 days and I think it's MG.

I'll try to see if my area has Tylan tomorrow when shops are open. I've heard of that before. Otherwise I'll import some from the US even if it costs a lot to ship.

I forgot to mention this but her head feathers are also much more puffy than usual. Her head isn't usually that big.

Energy like she's about the 5/10 of her self.

I don't know why they do this, but mine did the same thing. When mine were young and did this they had Coccidiosis, which is permanent meaning it can come back. Did you buy your with the Coccidiosis and Mareks immunization?

So that's why! Because her head wasn't that big yesterday. I'm glad it's not the swollen head syndrome... It is really her feathers.

I got 3 days-old chicks from the same breeder that got me the sick bird. My guess is she's not vaccinating them. She sells them sick instead...

As you mention Coccidiosis... She could have that. The new bird was REALLY dirty and it rained a lot during the last few days. Her nose isn't runny either at the moment.

I second the recommendation for Tylan 50 injectable. You will need syringes and 18 or 20 gauge needles to withdraw it from the vial. Many give it orally, or it can also be given as a shot. It's generic form is tylosin. You may need to get it from a vet in Canada. Oxytetracycline in the water can be used, but only if you cannot find Tylan 50. They also make Tylan Soluble Powder that your vet would have to prescribe to go into the water. She must drink enough of the medicated water to get a correct dose. Vet RX is an herbal product which contains oregano oil, rosemary, camphor, and pine oil, but no medications or antibiotics. It can be compared to Vicks.
