Help Lockdown tonight

Hi all, I go into lockdown tonight and I have no way to test humid. [On order not here yet] Anyway I was thinking about filling the channels and putting a damp dish towels down for them to hatch on. If I refill the channels as needed will this be humid enough? Also anyone know of any other ways to test humidity? Got to be an old fashion way of doing this.

What incubator do you have? There are a lot of different make and models out there and they are different. It is really hard to give an intelligent answer if I don't know what you are dealing with.

Do you have the instructions that came with the incubator? They should tell you what to do. You may be able to find them online if you don't have them.

You can look up how to do a wet bulb thermometer and maybe rig something up with that. I'm not aware of any other "old-fashioned" way.

I have the little giant stryfoam no fan from TS. So far low or no humidity until now. I can see 30 chicks moving around in shells when I candled 3 days ago I will candle again before lock down to make sure still alive but humidity seems to be really important at lockdown so I want to get that as close as I can, Also can you have too much humidity at the start of lockdown? Have a eyedropper to put more water in if need be

I don't have that model so I can't help you on that one. Hopefully someone else familiar with it will see this.

I think it is hard to have too much humidity at lockdown. You hear about chicks drowning and such but I think that is from too high humidity during the first 18 days, not during hatch. From basic physics, unless the humidity is at 100% and as long as everything is the same temperature, water cannot drop out of the air.

The humidity will usually really jump after they start hatching and that has not bothered my late hatchers. High humidity can slow them down in drying off, but that is not a big problem. Just make sure they don't get chilled if they are still wet when you put them in the brooder.

Thanks again, I had to run to wally world for some stuff and believe it or not but they had a humidity monitor by acu-rite. I will use it this time can't be much though was only 6 dollars, I figure better than nothing and it does have temp too so maybe i can get a idea of where it is at anyway.
