Please help, I brought home my first batch of chickens on Saturday and I was keeping them in the coop so they could get used to their new home. Then this morning one hopped out while I was filling water dishes and my german wire hair chased her around the house and out of sight. I can't find her anywhere.

Will she maybe come home?

Should I use my dog to track her down?

We live in town and probably shouldn't even have chickens so I'm afraid she will blow my cover.

What do I do??!!??

Well, I don't think I'd use your dog since that is what scared her off to begin with. Many times they come back. They're usually just hiding somewhere in the brush--look around in bushes, brush, etc. Set some food out for her---bowl or feeder--she should come running when she sees the feeder! Good luck!!!

Did you check in the trees? Sometimes when being chased then chickens will fly up into a tree if they are light enough to do so. Make sure that you check behind and underneath objects in your yard.

I wish you lots of luck in finding her.

Thanks, I looked under things, behind things, around and up in things. There is an empty lot across the street with some tall grass I might check over there after work

Still no sign of my little Orp, however there was poop on the porch that I don't remember being there when I left for work.

I am pretty sure that if the little bugger hasn't been eaten by now she is dehydrated and will soon die.

Bummer

I wouldn't give up that fast, chickens are resilient little buggers. There was a post just this morning about a chicken being found alive after being stuck in a trashcan for two weeks. You still have time, keep looking for her, I bet she'll show up.

The suspect in question was apprehended last night after much chasing through the scrub brush in the vacant lot across from my house. Cheap entertainment for the neighbors.

She looks pretty good but when I put her in with the other girls she got a pretty decent whuppin from the old ladies in the coop. She's fine I think they were just sorting her out for causing me so much heart burn.
