I don't think so. I think it just gives them extra calcium to ensure eggs are strong.So... after sending a pic to the duck lady at TSC, she claims they are mallards because their pin feathers are teal. She said if they were purple they would be Rouens. I think they’re mallards now because one easily lifted up and over our 4 foot picket fence to get back in the yard. Sigh. I was hoping for more eggs than mallards produce. Which brings up another interesting thing she said.
She told me that she’d been experimenting with feed on some of her ducks that are a Rouen/mallard mix. When she feeds them layer feed, they lay more. When she stops the layer feed and goes to game feed they lay less. Will layer feed “make” ducks lay more, even if they aren’t a laying breed?
