Good idea. Another thing I was considering was putting a clause that up to 4 hens are considered pets and not poultry.

I would move the poultry and specify how many hens.

No animals or livestock shall be raised, bred, or kept on any Lot except that dogs, cats, chickens (up to 4 hens) and/or other household pets providing they are not raised, bred, and/or kept for commercial purposes.

I thought about putting something in there about "according to city ordinance xxxxx" but then what happens if the city changes it to 2 or gets rid of it, etc.

HOA ordinance can't override city ordinance in the sense of being less restrictive (of course, they'll happily make it more restrictive), so "according to city ordinance" would actually be correct.
