Help me be strong .....

So how hard is it to rehome a pullet or a roo? Let's say I go get 6 more chicks. Could I let them grow and keep only my favorites? Do people do this? What do you do with the ones you don't want? Sell them, eat them? The guy I got the blrw said he would help me with the Roos if I end up with a bunch. Pretty sure he will butcher them if they aren't up to his breeding standard, and that's okay with me. I'm really curious what most people do though.
Thanks!

The chicken math is starting to sink in with me. I visit the farm stores every time I goto town now. Sad so sad! LOL

TODAY I went to get more feed. Orscheln's had the cutest *fry pan* chicks ever! Some of them had rose combs and I thought to myself "there's my Silver Laced Wyandotte" and then I wondered why they labeled them fry pan. . . Were they all roosters? Some of these looked like EEs... With pea combs.

In any case I resisted. I'm still waiting out for a SLW and hanging out with my current and first 6 chicks. Constantly thinking of ways to add on to my current coop with out asking my Hubby! Ha ha

Chicken math got my husband. We were suppose to get just 6 Welsummer chicks. He brought home a dozen. He has it bad. He wants them all and we do not have the money to support his addictions. Rabbits, chickens, trucks, etc....

Sigh....I am FORBIDDEN to go to any place selling chicks this time of year, and they are everywhere! I love bringing home new chicks and DH knows I have no will power when it comes to that. The fact that my coops are full and I have no place to raise youngsters once they are out of the brooder helps. My husband gets a crazed look in his eye if he thinks I am even thinking about him adding on to my pens lol! So, no chicks for me this year.

Ummmm.... In addition to the 56 I have in the incubator set to hatch next week..... I may have brought home some SL Wyandottes and Barred Rocks. You know.... Those are breeds we don't have and they lay ssoooo good!

I hatched my first chicken with a light bulb 7 years ago. Since then I have hatched more than a thousand.
The pullets are really easy to get rid of. I will raise them until fully feathered at around 2 months old and then I just put an ad on Craig's List. I will offer a free rooster to anyone who buys pullets from me. Most people will take one.
By that age I have picked out the ones I want to keep.
It really goes against my grain to harvest roosters for the freezer but they sure taste good later on.

I am trying to convince my husband that I need one of these

So we can get more birds ( one of his addictions ) so I can hatch out some babies ( my addiction ) so he can get the birds he wants, so I can get more eggs to incubate..... See the slippery slope we have going here. Last Summer we got 5 rabbits we now have 26 bunnies......
