I will definitely check them today.
As for the coop, they are put in there around 8:15 PM, and let into the run at 9:00 AM, so they are really only in there at night. The roosting bar spans the entire length of the coop, and they usually go up there after a few minutes. They have enough space up there. If the chickens were to stay there all day, which they do not, then I would agree the coop is far too small.
