Leadwolf1: My wife actually just flew back from ft collins today (she was there for work) and said that the haze and smoke some of the places she was was terrible. I hope it gets contained soon...but I know you are right about the renewal. With all that dead wood it has to happen sometime. As for the roos, I have considered keeping the barred rock. I only have 2 barred rock hens, but I like barred rocks in general. I like the idea of keeping a few and seeing which one has the best personality. As for the wyandottes, I think they are pretty (mine are the silverlaced), which is the main reason I got them. They have been great layers for me, esp in the winter. The ones I have have a good personality too. I also have my first non-brooder hatched chicks right now. I had an RIR Hen go broody and someone gave me 5 fertile eggs to put her on. One ended up infertile and one I dropped (d'oh!) but the other 3 are super cute, and only 3 days old. One is a polish with a funny little hat already! On a down note, I put out 3 turkeys in a bottemless cage last night and something (prob a raccoon) ripped the door right open (it was def the weak spot) and ate all 3. I just found some feet and a gizzard this morning. Bummer.
Gardeningmama: sorry to hear about the RIR attack. That doesnt seem good, and you should probably not wait for next time. I read (I think on Wikipedia) that RIR roos have been know to kill marauding foxes and dogs!
Cutlerfam: Thanks for the link...I will read it.
