Help me pick my ideal chickens

My EE's are the quietest of my bunch, granted none of them are laying yet. I have 3- 2 are a bit standoffish, 1 is the friendliest of all my birds. Don't forget to check out My Pet Chicken where they have a "calculator" as to what is best for you.

My BO is a very quiet, pretty girl. She's hardly ever part of the "3-o'clock Shout Out" that we have nearly every day, and she doesn't try to fly out of the chicken yard (as do the WRs and NHs).

I have to admit, though, that I chose her for reasons almost the opposite of what you're looking for: cold-hardiness (the tiny comb is less vulnerable to frostbite, and the feathers are good insulation) and broodiness. The quietness has been a plus.

I've heard that the Australorps are good layers and friendly; they certainly are pretty!

Go ahead and get the five; someone out there would surely take your "started pullets" off your hands.

I may have lucked out but I got 6 silver laced wyandottes and loved them.No fighting lots of eggs all year and very people friendly. At night they never fail to come when called and are big enough that hawks don't bother them.Have fun and enjoy!

Not too many votes for the Brahma’s. But they have my vote. I think the Brahma's are the best. They are very interesting looking: they have ornamental feathering, are good layers, and are large bodied. Mine are very gentle, curious, they like to be held, and will follow you all around. Simply a great bird. The BO are a great breed too.

I haven't a lot of experience with chickens yet, but my ees are so sweet, they come when called and follow us around. They even eat out of our granddaughter's hand

My BOs are doing good and seem like they are going to be good birds, they are only 4 weeks old

I was thinking about this. We'll see. I need to get cracking on building this coop! Unfortunately, it's raining cats and dogs outside right now.

Brahmas, Brahmas, Brahmas, I love Brahmas!

Friendly, fairly quiet, but roosters like to crow. When I sit down outside my Light Brahma, Domino, is the first in my lap, followed closely by another Brahma, Gadget. They are beautiful, stately birds and I wouldn't trade them for anything!

The Brahmas are beautiful but my bantams won't let me near them. I agree with Ellieroo, wyandottes are a good choice. My sweetest, coolest hen is a Black Jersey Giant.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the birds on your list.
Have fun.

Walter

I know they're not on your list, but I have barred rocks (also called Plymouth Rock) and they are great all-around chickens. They are prolific egg layers, and also make good meat chickens as they are hefty. They are also quite beautiful (see my avatar to the left). I raised mine from babies and they are very friendly.
