Help me pick out a modern game trio! Who is typey-est?

thank you Bob! Are you saying 549 is bad because of his comb or his forward chest? I was thinking his legs are nicer than the other cockeral. You make a good point about his comb, he probably would throw big combed pullets. I have to take two trios though I only get to pick the birds on one of the trios. I am happy to have them. I'm paying $20 per bird which doesn't seem high to me. I just want a decent foundation to breed from, plus they are within driving distance and I hate shipping birds!

Moderns are my thing! Love em to death!

Go with the pullets in the second picture, the one on the left is the best out of the bunch. All the other hens have tails set too high and wide and red faces. As far as males, I'm not really impressed. The last picture of the dubbed male looks pretty good. Your second choice would be the first roo, he's old though (long spurs, Moderns grow spurs very slowly, he's got some years going).

The cock has tighter feathering and more compact wings. He also has better breast lacing. He appears to have a good natural stance.

#549 is almost stilt legged, wings droop, saddle feathers are too long, big tail and has weak wing bars with little breast lacing.

Congratulations on taking my criticism in the way it was intended - to help you make a better choice. You will do well.

Remember the old saying- bad traits are dominate and good traits are recessive

Well glad you guys piped in.

I am fairly new to the breed myself, and I thought I knew what I was talking about. Well at least I got the pullets right!!!

I like the looks of the second group of pullets best. As to the males either #553 or the last male withe the #41 legband look the best.
The first male isn't a cockerel he's an older bird-at least 2 judging by the length of his spurs. He's also "stilty" meaning he stands up on his toes-notice his rear toe is off the ground. Not a desirable trait in moderns.
I know the breeding of these birds-they're a good start.

Tiki, Bob, chickenlady, Moody thank you for your input. It really helps to know their specific faults. Someone mentioned the cockerals are long in the wing it really opens my eyes! I thought they were pretty birds but just didnt look like moderns and now i can see that is why, the wings break the silhouette. I will end up with one of them for sure though in the last trio, not my choice. Let's hope they have winning personalities! Old cock it is!

So.....the hens
Left pullet in second pic is spoken for. I've got 552, R28, and 545 to decide about. Which two? Besides being underlaced what are their faults? Do they have any strengths?

I'm learning so much, thank you everyone!

So interesting you say the old cock is stilty, I was thinking it was a good thing! I'm thinking I should get 553 then and I suspect I will end up with the old cock as part of the last trio. Where can I learn more about breeding moderns? I need to see more examples of what a great one looks like.
