Kelpie... My experience with the Moderns, bring in new blood and breed until you get something you like, then start backcrossing. That way it's really your bloodline and not just the perpetuation of others' bloodlines. My original stock came from 4 different sources. The third generation came out nice, and then I started backcrossing. I did bring in some new blood this year, only because my birds were starting to get too high in the tail, so I bought a low tailed cock from the Sallees to balance that out. And as far as selling to 4Hers, kids LOVE Moderns, especially when they're tame. So if you tame down the male you don't want, you'll find a loving home for him fast. Good luck!
