So I bought a “gamblers dozen” eggs locally that can be the following:

Purebred cream legbar
Cream legbar hen x BCM Roo
BCM hen x cream legbar roo
Pure BCM

It was hens choice.
Hatch day was yesterday and I was able to see who came out of what egg and I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out what they may look like as adults :) I put my guesses in there but I’m not sure I quite get what to expect with how the feather patterns will be as they get bigger and there wasn’t many pictures when I searched.

I’m going to add each chick separately but here’s what we started with. I’d like to update the thread as they get older so others can have an idea too.

(Also - the nest has been changed to something more chick appropriate now that we hatched 🤣)

I’m thinking male? This hatched from a legbar egg so we definitely are cross here

This babe was from a marans egg so definitely a cross of marans hen x cream legbar roo but I’m thinking pullet. She had a black outline over her chipmunk stripe. Pic of egg provided.

If it hatched from a legbar hen and a marans rooster, it's female. Males of this specific crossing will have a head spot, females won't. However
The ones with a marans hen under a leg bar rooster will all have head spots

Definitely legbar hen.. and had to be marans rooster with the black feathers is my guess. I included the nest picture with the two blue hatched eggs so we can see it was definitely a legbar /marans.

My marans hen egg hatched a chipmunk striped baby so guessing that one was a marans hen and legbar too. She had a beautiful black stripe around the chipmunk stripe. I’m confused for sure

Because legbars carry the barred gene- if the BCMs and legbars are purebred- you have a little pullet here! Cockerels would be barred/chipmunk, and pullets are black and will mature to a BCM-looking hen.

Here's the genetics calculator showing the cross: http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html?mgt=E:E^R/E^R,Mh:Mh/Mh&fgt=E:e+/e+,B:B/(B)

Barred genes make this one interesting! Crossing a barred (crele in this case with legbar) on a BCM results in crele/chipmunk for both cockerels and pullet chicks.

The next generation will be darker red than the gold on legbars, but largely the same overall look.

http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html?mgt=E:e+/e+,B:B/(B)&fgt=E:E^R/E^R,Mh:Mh/Mh

So... based on your eggs

Pure legbar- chipmunk chicks
Legbar rooster X BCM- chipmunk chicks
Pure BCM- black or tuxedo chicks
BCM rooster x Legbar hen- tuxedo or black pullets, and chipmunk cockerels (sex linked!)

Oh yay, so the black legbar hen/BCM roo baby is a pullet!
So based on this, we have 3 pullets, one rooster?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and the calculator. We have had roosters for years but he was a bantam and couldn’t do the job for the ladies 🤣 so never paid attention to genetics /feathering /eggs
