help me with my chick!! please! gender and breed.

So i bought my kids some chicks a few weeks ago. I wasn't really thinking of keeping them long term. But i have fallen in love,i got a free small shed and now they are staying. Im fixing up the coop, for now they reside in the bathroom. i wanted to get some info or guesses on breed and sex. if anyone can help id appreciate it.
the brown ones kind of look like brahma's but i don't want to talk to loud alot of chicks look like brahmas to start
Can I ask a question without offending you? Why did you get your children chicks if you weren't planning I'm keeping them? Unfortunately people think that chicks are so cute and go buy a bunch at Easter and then realize that there is more time, effort and care needed than they want to give. Then they either drop them off somewhere or kill them. I will say I'm happy to see your doing the right thing by taking care of them. :jumpy
I don't mean to sound crass but for me that is half the appeal of chickens. If you get tired of your pet chickens you can eat them. Unlike your annoying puppy eating your shoes. I love that if I change my mind about keeping poultry nobody will think it is odd if I have them for dinner. Not to mention chickens are super easy to sell. I don't think you can make the decision to get chickens irresponsibly unless you get chick's and never buy them any food or something. I'm sure the bleeding hearts of the world look at it differently, but let's face it, chickens are walking food, not just for people, but nearly every other carnivorous beast around. Don't get me wrong. I like my chickens, but if I fall on rough times they will give whatever necessary to get us through. I'm the country person paying people for things with live chickens. Lol. If I'm hungry I will eat them, if I need money I will sell them. Not everyone does that "chickens are part of the family" thing.

Nope that doesn't offend me, I actually agree with you there. What I was trying to say and I suppose I didn't put it correctly, is that people at Easter go and buy little chicks and then a couple weeks later they decide they don't want all the work that comes with them and they either drop them off somewhere or kill them. To get them and raise them for food or pets is one thing but to get them and not have a definite plan for them is another! :)

Nope not offended at all. lol. I had a back up plan!! The guy I bought them from raises chicks and ducks and rabbits!! So he said he'd gladly take them back for whatever reason!! lol I love chickens. Like I told my husband, I always knew I would have chickens one day. I was thinking 65, retired mom. Not 26 mom of 3 kids under 6 yrs old. I wanted to expose my kids to animals, and teach them to be kind and love all creations of life. Which is working out perfectly! my youngest is 1yr and a half old, while i won't trust hime alone with them he seems to be very gently when they approach him. :)

I could see that. My chickens were a slightly spur of the moment purchase when I decided to get them. We bought a piece of property that had a 2 story building on it, and I kept thinking I have 4 acres and I want to do something with it...then I noticed the second story of the building had a lot of feathers in it...and it hit me..I could keep chickens. So I Googled what chickens needed and started browsing craigslist. Found a guy not too far away selling 3 hens and a rooster, set up a time to go get them, found a guy near my house selling hay, and stopped at the feed store on the way to pick up the chickens and bought some chicken feed. The day after we got the chickens I built a ramp and feeder, bought a waterer from the guy I bought the chickens from...then I became obsessed and each spring I accumulate around 80 birds or so, ducks, turkeys, chickens...then right before winter I sell most of them. Keeping a few to start again with the following year. We eat some, but most we sell. I just like knowing the option is there. I can garden and I keep chickens. My family will never starve. The chickens are sort of my fail safe.

I add upgrades to the coop every little once in a bit, but I had no actual plan.just woke up one day and decided I was a chicken lady. I did make sure I knew a lot about them before bringing those first 4 home. My ex husband was all here goes another hobby--what are you going to do if you get tired of them...well duh, we will eat them. Lol. But I never got tired of them. That was years ago and at this point I don't think I will tire of them. Besides I basically get to take winter off. Because 8 are so much easier to care for than 80, it's like they aren't there at all.

I doubt ill ever have space for that many. 5 is good for now, and thats if I decide to keep the roo. He pecked me today again. So I carried him for a few mins, then he did it again. So I carried him longer and so far nothing. I guess ill keep carrying him around each day.

when i was breaking my rooster i would flick him in the face everytime would would peck me while i was holding him.

I have one roo that it doesn't matter what I'm doing, if I go by him, he puffs up and acts like he wants to attack. So before he can do that I take a sick and just point it at him and he looks for a minute then decides he doesn't want any part of that stick and backs off. I'm sure he's just bidding his time and is going to try to to really attack and I when he does it's off to the pot for him.
