Help me with run roofing ideas?

As previously mentioned, call any builder supply, metal roofing/panels place, etc. near you and ask about miscuts, orders not picked up, that kind of thing. You can save a lot of money that way. Everything may not match color wise, you may have to do some cutting, but it's certainly worth it. I understand your want to do clear poly, but I'd do all metal if I could, but even if you end up with some of both, it'll still be a good deal.

Another idea to temporarily safe guard your chooks while you work out the roofing solution is add electric fencing to the perimeter. You can run two lines of hot wire around the perimeter one really low and another just slightly higher for the cost of a fencing box and some wire and a few of the posts. If your weasel gets a lil taste of voltage it might quell his taste for chicken

Will this work in the winter though? Snow...15” more coming this week, argh. I had considered it but thought it might not be effective in winter :(

I will definitely check out local suppliers. I don’t care if the roof is patchwork colored! It’s sloping off into the woods anyway.

Not sure about how well it would work in your climate, I'm located in the south(not that we don't have winter weather, we just don't have 15" snow kind of weather). I feel like it would be difficult to make this solution work in the winter in your circumstances. I didn't notice your locale, didn't mean to throw a red herring into the conversation

Your 2X6 joists set 2' apart and your purlins every 18" should work fine. Should look like this underneath.

I should've added this to my earlier post about saving money. Last Friday, I bought 7, 8 foot miscuts for $70. You can really save some $$ buying miscuts.

Yes the plan is for 2x6x16’ beams set 2’ apart with cross pieces to brace. (Shed style sloped roof) I need to lower the back side for more roof pitch as well. I’ll add some more support to the top boards on the sides. The posts are 4x4s set in cement 2’ + deep in the ground. But yes, that was part of the reason I couldn’t get the roof on in time last fall. Lots to frame first.
That sounds pretty good. Will you add a cross beam midway underneath the 16'ers supported by posts?

Hmmm wasn’t planning on the middle support post...but that was when I was thinking all poly which is a lot lighter. Snow is a factor though so better safe than sorry I guess. Guy I hired for advice (and to help w/two man augur last summer) said if I have enough pitch I might not need the middle support. Snow will slide off. Does that sound right?

Oh the width of the run is closer to 11’ so I will be trimming the 16’ers down quite a bit. I don’t really want overhang to catch the wind. Don’t need it for runoff or anything either, the ground there is really absorbent of rain in summer. It’s reclaimed forest basically. I was actually thinking of putting them flush against the top beams with hurricane ties, not sitting on top. Cutting at angle to fit right in there.
