Help me with this quail!

Hi, got a bird from the local shelter....Why, I'm still not sure but hey he/she was $3 and I have a small coop. However, I'm not sure what type it is. I assume it is domestic but if its not I'd like to hand it over to someone who deals with wild animals. If it is domestic I'd like to know its sex and if the loud song at 5am is only seasonal or what?

That is a Tennessee Red Bobwhite. You can not physically sex them, however if it is crowing at 5am, no doubt it is a male.

If he is tolerable tame, then he is domestic. If he panics like you are the devil, than he may be a wild quail.
